'Be-Blaenau Ffestiniog- Friends'

Current figures suggest that

41% of residents within the Blaenau Ffestiniog community live alone which equates to a staggering 2000 people with 48% aged over 75.

Social and economic differences in health status reflect and are often caused by social and economic inequalities within society. Poor health is likely to be caused by poor social and economic differences which lead to low self-esteem, social isolation and anxiety.

Our be-friending service is beneficial to both the be-friender and the person requiring support in varying ways:

Benefits of the scheme to the service user:

  • Reduces loneliness and isolation

  • Encourages access to local services and community activities

  • Provides companionship and stepping stones to develop long term friendship

Benefits of the scheme to the be-friender:

  • Contribute to own (and the service users) positive mental well being

  • Develop skills within the healthcare sector which can be transferred to employment opportunities

  • Reduce own loneliness and isolation
